CBS NEWS is running a gallery slideshow of the new Bob Peak Exhibit at The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences:

A painting of Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson to advertise the 1976 western “The Missouri Breaks” is one of many stellar examples of the art of illustrator Bob Peak (1927-1992). The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in Beverly Hills, Calif., has opened an exhibition of his work, “Bob Peak: Creating the Modern Movie Poster,” which features many of his iconic paintings used for film marketing in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s.

Bob Peak Exhibition at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: Creating the Modern Movie Poster

Artist and designer Bob Peak (1927–1992) has been hailed as the “father of the modern Hollywood movie poster.” This exhibition will display nearly 50 of his colorful, graphically complex original paintings done for iconic movie poster campaigns alongside the final one-sheet posters for such titles as “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “Superman,” “Star Trek – The Motion picture” and “Apocalypse Now.”

Free and open to the public from Thursday, January 20, to Sunday, April 17, 2011 in the Academy’s Fourth Floor Gallery.
